Women Warriors: Indigenous Voices
First Annual Indigenous Women's Symposium
March 11-13, 2012 Hosted by the First Nations Studies Graduate Students at the University of Northern British Columbia Keynote presenters: Dr. Manulani Meyer, Dr. Paula Sherman, and Dr. Val Napoleon. Women Warriors: Indigenous Voices is a multidisciplinary event celebrating the diversity of Indigenous women in leadership, while bringing into focus the unique contributions and perspectives of Indigenous women working in Northern British Columbia. The conference theme is "Diversity and Solidarity: Celebrating Indigenous Women Leaders." This event will bring together women and men from all walks of life to share a dialogue of strength and diversity in leadership. There has never been an event of this type in northern British Columbia. The University's unique position serving Northern populations, while maintaining a large number of national and international research relationships, means that the conference will have a distinct local flavour as well as being relevant to people of diverse backgrounds. The work of Indigenous women leaders and warriors will be showcased in two days of workshops, presentations, and posters which highlight the interplay of academic and Indigenous knowledges. The conference will begin with a banquet celebration, featuring local musicians and performers and a dinner including local Indigenous food. |
