Call for Abstracts
Please note: The submission period for oral presentations is now closed.
Conference dates: March 11-13, 2012
Conference theme: “Women Warriors: Celebrating Indigenous women leaders’ Diversity and solidarity”
Keynote Speakers: Dr, Manulani Myer, Dr. Val Napoleon, Dr. Paula Sherman
Women Warriors: Indigenous Voices is a multidisciplinary event celebrating the diversity of Indigenous women in leadership, while bringing into focus the unique contributions and perspectives of Indigenous women working in Northern British Columbia. This event will bring together all genders from divergent backgrounds to share a dialogue of strength and diversity in leadership.
There has never been an event of this kind in northern British Columbia. The University’s unique position serving Northern populations, while maintaining a large number of national and international research relationships, means that the conference will have a distinct local flavour as well as being relevant to people beyond the Northern community.
The work of Indigenous women leaders and warriors will be showcased in two days of workshops, presentations, and posters which highlight the interplay of academic and Indigenous knowledges. The conference will begin with a banquet celebration, featuring local musicians and performers and a dinner including local Indigenous food. Keynote presentations will be given by Dr. Manulani Meyer, Dr. Val Napoleon, and Dr. Paula Sherman.
Abstract guidelines
Abstracts should be no longer than 100-150 words and include the presenter’s name, contact information, and institutional or organizational affiliation. Submissions are welcomed from graduate students and from men. For inclusion in our SSHRC Conference application send asap. The final date for submission is December 20, 2011, after which notifications will be sent to presenters.
We are looking for presenters to give 20-minute oral presentations with a 10-minute question period, to lead 1-hour workshops, or to present their work in a poster format, to be displayed during breaks. Please specify which type of presentation you prefer at the time of abstract submission.
